Summary: The photograph, taken by Truman Ingersoll of St Paul, Minnesota in 1883, looks across the flat bottom land along the Little Missouri River outside of Medora, Dakota Territory. A wagon track slices through the bottoms, and atop the steep bluff of the stream is the home of the Marquis de Mores. Known as the Chateau, the structure was built by the Marquis de Mores when he arrived in North Dakota in 1883. This house served as a summer residence for his family.
