Archaeology Day

Join us for this free, family-friendly event, offering hands-on activities and fascinating insights into the world of archaeology.

Visitors of all ages will have the opportunity to explore the science behind uncovering history. Various stations will be set up throughout the museum, allowing participants to engage in activities such as conducting a sandbox dig, investigating artifacts, and simulating the process of an archaeology lab. These interactive experiences are designed to give everyone a chance to step into the shoes of an archaeologist and learn to discover and interpret the past.

At 2 p.m., join State Archaeologist Andrew Robinson for his talk, "Digging North Dakota: Not Just Indiana Jones." In this presentation, Robinson will discuss the evolving practices of archaeology, including the use of cutting-edge technology such as drones, GIS mapping, and ground-penetrating radar. He will also cover the rules and regulations governing archaeological work in North Dakota.
