No animal is more integral to the lives of Plains tribes than the bison. The bison was one of the most sought after prey of the hunter, providing meat, hides for clothing and shelter, sinew for sewing, and bone for manufacture of tools and ornaments. In addition, the bison was integral in social and ceremonial life.
