Summary: Roger Merle Aaker, 64, Bismarck, passed away on June 22, 2006 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Services were held Monday, June 26 at Parkway Funeral Service Chapel, 2330 Tyler Parkway,with the Rev. Darrel Aleson officiating. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery, Cathay, ND. Roger was born September 29, 1941 in New Rockford, ND, the son of Ingvald and Eva (Bartlett) Aaker. He was raised and educated in McHenry, ND and graduated from high school in 1959. Roger graduated from Valley City State Teachers College and began his teaching career in a rural school near New Rockford. He moved to Cathay, ND where he was 7th and 8th grade teacher, grade school basketball coach and assistant high school basketball coach for eleven years. He married Helen Martin May 29, 1964 at Cathay. They had two children Aaron and Colin “Butch”. Roger moved the family to Sykeston, ND where he taught 7th and 8th grade at Sykeston Public School, as well as coached basketball in the elementary grades. Roger became elementary principal at North Shore Elementary in Ryder, ND and then Cannonball Elementary in Cannonball, ND. Due to ill health, Roger was forced to retire from his teaching and coaching career in 1987. As a young man Roger became an avid Dodgers baseball fan and enjoyed small game and hunting.past few years the Cleveland Indians had become Roger’s favorite team as his nephew Travis Hafner (Pronk) is the usual designated hitter/1st base. It brought so much pleasure to him to watch “Pronk” play baseball each day on T.V. Roger enjoyed reading history books as well as watching history T.V. shows and completing crossword puzzles every day. Having shared and brought much joy to his life are his sons, Aaron (Chris) of Columbia, MO and Colin “Butch (Grace) of Bismarck; his grandchildrenAshley, Lisa, Laura and Scott of Bismarck and Ethan of Columbia, MO; his sisters, Maxine Willows of Mandan, ND, Judy White of Wichita, KS, and Cathy Allen of Okmulgee, OK; several nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts; and special friends Linda Anderson and Sheri Zeller. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ingvald and Eva Aaker and his brother, Dennis.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
