Summary: Charles R. Aasen, 82 of Alexander, ND went to be with his heavenly father on March 13, 2010 at Merit Care Hospital, Fargo, ND. Funeral services were held March 18, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alexander. Rev. Timothy Swenson officiated and interment was in the Alexander Cemetery.Charles was born April 9, 1927 in Alexander, ND, the son of Ole and Ragna Aasen. Charles grew up across the street from the Alexander school. (He was fond of saying he walked to school uphill both ways.) He graduated from Alexander High School in 1945. He bought a brand new Mack truck and went into trucking. Charles was united in marriage to Ethyl James on October 2, 1949 in Alexander. They farmed and ranched west of Alexander where they raised four children. He was a bus driver for the Alexander School District for 25 years. Charles was very active in the community. He served on several boards including the Lewis and Clark Museum, Lutheran Church, McKenzie Social Services, Lions, Old Settlers committee, and county and city boards. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Charles spent his entire life living in Alex Township and loved telling everyone he came from "God's Country." He enjoyed supporting local high school activities and believed the best kids came from Alexander. Charles was very patriotic and considered Memorial Day one of the most important holidays. He loved camping, family time, traveling, fishing, reading local history, playing 10 1/2 for coffee, and pinochle at the Senior Citizens Center. Nobody was a stranger to Charles. He loved visiting with family, friends and meeting new people. Surviving family members include his wife of 60 years, Ethyl; three daughters, Beverly Westphal (Wayne), Fargo, Barbara Rued (Douglas), Minot, ND, and Judith Veeder (Wade), Pilot Point, TX; one son, Wade Aasen, Alexander; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Solveig Okland, Polson, MT; and one brother, Carson Aasen, Rapid City, SD. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Rebekah Westphal; and two brothers, Lynn and Ronald Aasen.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
