Summary: George Albert, 81, longtime Williston, ND resident, died March 31, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Williston. His funeral was celebrated April 6, 2010 at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church. Rev. Christopher Raiford officiated and interment, with military honors, followed in Riverview Cemetery. George Albert was born to Charles and Irene Albert in 1928 on the family farm in Mont Township, northwest of Williston. He was raised on the farm and attended a local country school. His dad always valued George’s help on the farm. George also worked for other area farmers and worked in coal mines east of Williston until entering the service. In 1951 George entered the US Army in which he served as a crane operator, and later an instructor. He was honorably discharged in 1953. On May 10, 1952 George and Janet were united in marriage while he was stationed in Yorktown, VA. George returned to Williston and began work in the oil business, building and setting oil tanks around the country. He and his family left Williston, living for a year each in Tacoma, WA and then Billings, MT where he found work. They eventually returned to Williston and George worked and later managed Basin Tire for thirty-five years. During many of those years, George also farmed the home place. He had several passions in life, first and foremost spending time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren. He also liked watching old westerns on television. George also thought it rewarding to simply spend the day out at the farm, feeding the animals and taking care of anything that needed to be done. George, being a very sociable guy, loved to have coffee and visit with his many friends, or anyone he came in contact with for that matter. He treasured the many hours spent together with Janet attending different social events. He enjoyed playing cards, checkers and chess. His fun loving nature even led him to try jet skiing for the first time at the age of 81. He loved singing and playing music. George and Janet enjoyed singing at home together, and having great fun with others around the piano, and large wonderful gettogethers. He was an active member of Our Redeemer’s as a trustee, usher, Luther League advisor, and helped with the grounds; and was a member of the American Legion. George is survived by his wife, Janet, of Williston; his children: son, Rick and Kathie Albert of Williston and their three girls, Jerrica, Jenna and Jocelyn; daughter, Vicki and Gary Stanz of Alexandria, MN and their children, Annie, Josh (Tracy), and Robbie (fiancee, Laura); and son, Jim and Katya of Lafayette, IN and their new daughter, Hailey. Also surviving are four sisters, Edna Geller of Springbrook, ND, Leona Palmer of Tacoma, WA, Julie Croy of Carson City, NV, and Patsy and Dave Ellison of Cold Spring, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a baby brother, Clifford; a sister, Winnie Gamache; and his brothers, Donald, Ed and Gene Albert.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
