Summary: John William Allen, 82, Bismarck, ND passed away September 10, 2008. John’s death was very surprising, but thankfully brief after a one week bout with cancer. Funeral services were held on September 15, 2008 at Charity Lutheran Church, Bismarck. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield, IA. John William Allen was born in Sheffield, IA on April 13, 1926 to Earl & Katherine (Fezer) Allen. He was raised and attended his elementary school and high school years in Mason City. He graduated with a Bachelors Degree from Iowa State University, Ames, IA. He received his Masters Degree from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, NE. John was a Veteran of World War II. He was a Master Sergeant in the Army Infantry. Upon his honorable discharge, he married the love of his life, Delores Carlson of Mason City, IA. Delores passed away in 1999. The Allen family moved to Flasher, ND in 1970 where John was the Manager of Mor-Gran-Sou Rural Electric Cooperative. After retirement he and Delores moved to Bismarck, where they spent the rest of their years traveling and enjoying family and friends. He is survived by his four children, Cynthia (Dick) Wagoner, Sutton, ND; Todd Allen, Bismarck; Kimberley (Jerry) McComas, Temecula, CA; Bradley (Beth) Allen, Mandan; 8 grandchildren, Sherry (Brad) Schmidt; Heather Jonson, Jayde and Bennett McComas, Annie, Brent, Bryce, and Abby Allen, one great-grandchild, Landrie Schmidt. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores; his parents, Earl & Katherine (Fezer) Allen; brother, Robert Allen; and daughter, Roxanne Allen.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
