Summary: Richard J. Anagnost, 72, Bismarck, passed away on Friday, November, 21, 2008, at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, after a long illness. A memorial service was held at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Bismarck, with Rev. Michael Horn officiating. Richard was born on August 5, 1936, in New York City, NY, to John G. and Gertrude (Weick) Anagnost. He grew up in New York City and graduated from McBurney High School in 1954. He received a football scholarship and attended Hamline University for two years. Richard enlisted in the Air Force in 1956 and was stationed at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, CA, and Johnson Air Force Base in Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1960. In January of 1958, Richard married Darlene Schultz in Sacramento. He worked as an assistant manager for Robert Hall Clothes in Minneapolis and New Jersey following his discharge from the service. Richard and Darlene moved to ND in 1962. He farmed briefly in the Jamestown area and then began working for the ND Highway Patrol in 1964. He served in Ellendale, Jamestown, Devils Lake, Bismarck, and Fargo, holding multiple positions and ranks, including assistant superintendent from 1981– 1985. Following his retirement in 1991, he worked for the Burleigh-Morton Chapter of the American Red Cross providing disaster services. Richard is survived by his wife, Darlene, of Bismarck; his son, Daniel, and his fiancée, Susan Wang, of Morris, MN; his son, Dean (Shawn), of Bismarck; his daughter, Katherine, and her fiancé, Darin Gilbertson, of Grand Forks; and four grandsons, Scott of Ashland, WI, Nicholas of Fargo, and Alec and Aric of Bismarck. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Susanne Luckey.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
