Inscription/Marks: 8/2/1919
Summary: Grace L. Andahl, 90, Bismarck, ND, died peacefully on January 28, 2010 at home with her family at her side. Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with Rev. Paul Becker officiating. Burial was in the Baldwin Cemetery, Baldwin, ND. Grace was born on August 2, 1919, to Paul and Agnes (Murray) Schonert. She grew up on her parents’ farm north of Bismarck, where she attended Burnt Creek School. She married Helmer Andahl on September 24, 1940. Shortly after they married, they purchased a farm north of Bismarck where they lived and farmed together. They had one son, Ronald. Grace enjoyed farm living to the fullest and had the heart of a true pioneer woman. She raised and sold chickens and eggs, tended large gardens, canned countless jars of fruits and vegetables, along with many other farm-life enterprises. Grace also enjoyed sewing, making over 600 quilts during her lifetime – many for family and friends, but with a good number going to local charities. She was affectionately known as the “quilt lady.” She was a charter member of the Riverside Homemaker’s Club which began in 1948, and was an active member all her life. Grace loved her farm home and was lucky enough to spend all of her days, even her last ones, there. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Pat; her granddaughter, Darcy; her grandson, David and his wife, Jackie; her great- grandchildren, Stephanie and Tyler Mees; hersister, Rosemary Andahl; and her sisters-in-law, Lila Little, Aldyth Doering, and Beverly, Lucille and Leona Schonert; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, Rudy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Helmer; her grandson, Ty; three brothers, Robert, Joseph and Roy Schonert; and her brothers-in-law, Roy Andahl, Don Little and Buck Doering
