Summary: Kerby Lee Andersen, 32, of Grenora, ND, was called to Our Father in Heaven May 14, 2010, while battling complications from cirrhosis at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN. His funeral service was May 20, 2010 in the Grenora High School Gymnasium. Intern Pastor Danna Lockhart and Pastor Betty Mawbey officiated, and interment was in the Grenora Cemetery. Kerby was born in Plentywood, MT to Gene and Geralyn (Sneva) Andersen on July 29, 1977. He was raised on his family’s farm in northeast Montana with his older brother, Brent, and younger sister, Ashley. He attended Hiawatha Elementary School in Dagmar, MT, and Medicine Lake High School. He transferred to Grenora High School his sophomore year and graduated with the class of 1995. Kerby formed many special bonds with friends in high school while playing baseball, football, and basketball. He often reminisced with friends and family about the “Glory Days.” Kerby attended MSU-Bottineau, and UND- Williston playing baseball for the Lumberjacks and the Tetons. He then went to NDSU in Fargo, ND and MSU in Minot, ND before returning to Grenora to join his family’s farming operation in 1999, alongside his dad and lifelong friend Les (Stache) Jensen. On June 10, 2006 Kerby married Heather Haugen in Grenora, where they made their home. They enjoyed traveling, golfing, playing games (especially the Farming Game), watching baseball, and spending relaxing evenings in the hot tub. Their years of marriage were filled with love and many lasting memories. Kerby loved his family and showed it every day. He was especially proud of his niece and nephews and worked hard at spoiling them every chance he could -many of the coolest toys and gadgets at their homes came from Uncle Kerb and Auntie Heather! Seeing his family laughing and having fun made Kerby very happy. Numerous holidays and gatherings were spent in intense but lighthearted competitions on the Wii and other games. One of Kerby’s favorite family events was the annual Andersen family fishing and golf trip to Fort Qu’Appelle, Saskatchewan. Although fishing was the highlight, he also looked forward to evenings of ladder golf and campfires with family and friends. Kerby was passionate about sports, golfing, hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. At an early age, he could be found shooting gophers with his BB gun in the pasture, batting rocks against the grain bins at the farm, and knocking a golf ball through the dining room window. Kerby’s favorite sport to play and follow was baseball. He played T-Ball in Dagmar, Babe Ruth and Legion Baseball in Grenora, followed by college baseball in Bottineau and Williston. He also coached the Grenora Legion baseball team. Kerby was a huge fan of the Minnesota Twins his whole life and liked the Minnesota Vikings a little bit. In lieu of flowers, a baseball scholarship has been set up at Williston State College in Kerby‘s name. In 2001, Kerby purchased the Centennial Bar in Grenora where hunters from near and far set up camp while enjoying the hunting and community “life.” For Kerby, the Centennial was more than a business - he made it the place where people gather and form lifelong friendships. He also took pride in his legendary burgers which were noted in the New York Times. Kerby is survived by his wife, Heather Andersen, Grenora; parents, Gene and Geri Andersen, Dagmar; grandmother, Marjorie Andersen Dagmar; brother, Brent (Dean Miller) Andersen,Minnetonka, MN; sister, Ashley (Adam) Engh, Williston; niece, Aslyn Engh; nephews, Adler Engh and Colin Robbins; aunts, Joanne Andersen, Eagan, MN and Cleo (Alton) Nygaard, Des Lacs, ND; several cousins; father-in-law, Ted Haugen, Kenmare, ND; and sister-in-law, Heidi Robbins, Kenmare. Kerby was preceded in death by grandparents, Leslie Andersen, and Engwald and Marjorie Sneva; motherin-law, Shellene Haugen; and recently grandmother-inlaw, Fern Bleken.
