Summary: Joan Anderson, age 72, Bismarck, died May 1, 2006 at her home. A Memorial Service was held Friday, May 5, 2006 at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan with Rev. Duane Wacker officiating. Joan was born on February 20, 1934 in Bismarck, ND, the daughter of Grant and Ruth (Gundlach) Hartley. She was raised and educated in Mandan, graduating from Mandan High School. In 1954, Joan married Joseph McCann in Mandan. Together, they shared three children. Joan married Lorris Anderson in 1976. Lorris died in 1982. Joan resided in Fargo from 1976 until 1985. Throughout her life, Joan was a school bus driver, ambulance attendant, seamstress and nurse’s aide atthe VA Hospital in Fargo, Mandan Hospital, MiSlope Lutheran Care Center, Heartview and many area nursing homes. Joan was a caring person. Giving was much more important to her than receiving. For Joan, trust was an essential quality for everyone to possess. She loved to go fishing and enjoyed being adventurous to a degree…exploring provided many wonderful memories for her. Joan will be fondly remembered by her two daughters, Bridget McCann of Chicago, IL and Mary McCann of Bismarck; one son, Joseph Michael McCann of Chicago, IL; one grandson, Cory; one sister and brother-in-law, Wanda (James) Esser of Mountain Home, AR and many special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands,Joseph and Lorris and her special friend, Archie Harveland.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
