Summary: Lillian Arnstad, 94, a longtime Wildrose, ND resident, passed away May 12, 2009, at the Tioga Medical Center in Tioga, ND. Her memorial service was celebrated May 21, 2009, at Grace Lutheran Church in Wildrose. Pastoral Assistant Kathy Paulson officiated and interment was in United Cemetery in Tioga. Lillian Arnstad was born September 1, 1914 at Tioga, ND to John and Clara Arnstad. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Lillian attended school at Tioga, graduating in 1933. She was a member of the State High School Girls' Basketball Champion team in 1933 and a big basketball fan throughout her life. She attended Minot Teacher's College to receive her teacher's certificate. Lillian taught school south of Tioga, in Tioga, and in Williston at Webster and Central. In 1946 she went to work for Hamilton Stores in Yellowstone Park and worked many summers. When her mother died in 1952 she moved back to North Dakota and worked at the Craven-Hagan Clinic in Williston. In 1957, she went back to Yellowstone Park as a permanent employee of Hamilton Stores. She managed several stores in the park and then went to the main office in West Yellowstone as a buyer for the company. She wintered in Santa Monica, CA at the main office. In 1981, Lillian retired to Wildrose to her red schoolhouse on Willow Lake near her niece, Kay Fortier and enjoyed many years there. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Wildrose Senior Citizens, North Dakota CattleWomen, and Upland Hobby Club. She is survived by her nieces, Kay and William Fortier, Cheryl and Conrad Swedenborg, Joanne and Glenn Enger, Janet Lalim, Carol and Bill Oxner, and Evva Margaret Conrad; great nieces and nephews, John Fortier, Jay Fortier, Chris Swedenborg, Jason Swedenborg, Jim McGuiness, Jess McGuiness, JT McGuiness, Shana Fried, Amie Iverson, Korrie Haas, Brennen Lalim, Mitchell Lalim, Kyle Mclntyre, Jess Mclntyre, and Kali Mclntyre; great-great nieces, Jacey Fortier, Brooke Fortier, Billi Fortier, Audrina Fortier, Madison Fried, Delaney Fried, Nolan McGuiness,Mariah McGuiness, Alayna McGuiness, Katelyn McGuiness, and Ethan McGuiness; Special nieces, Shelly Boespflug, Denise Weeks, Jackie Boespflug, Susie Clark, and Lois O'Brien, and their mother, Marlene Fortier. Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, John and Clara; her brother, Vernal; sisters, Gunvor and Elvira; and a nephew, Randy McGuiness. Soon after Lillian’s death a special niece, Bobbi Talmadge, also lost her battle with cancer.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
