He grew-up on the family farm east of Wilton and attended school at Grass Lake Township. In 1948, Robert graduated from Bismarck High School and in 1951 he entered the US Army. Following the service, he returned to the family farm. On October 30, 1954, Robert married Carol Michelsen. They moved to Bismarck in 1957. Robert began working in dry wall construction in 1960 until his retirement in 1990. Robert was a kind-hearted, hard-working, quiet man who cherished his family and passed on his love of family to his children. He was never afraid of hard work and after returning from a day of dry wall taping, he would spend countless hours attending to his immaculate garden of vegetables and his precious flowers. Upon his retirement, Robert enjoyed the opportunityto spend many fun times with his granddaughters. Each one held a special place in his heart. His great-grandsons always brought a smile to his face. One passion that Robert enjoyed from the time of his school days until the time of his death was following Bismarck High athletics, especially boys basketball. Robert began supporting Century girls athletics when his granddaughters began participating. Robert attended many athletic events, until he physically could no longer attend. Robert was a faithful servant of the Lord and was an active member of Evangel Assembly, having served as Sunday School teacher, choir member and Deacon. His greatest desire was for his entire family to follow him in serving the Lord. Robert is survived by his wife, Carol; his son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Kathy Asplund and their children, Dana and Laura Asplund; his daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Jon Patch and their children, Jessica (Jon) Storsved, Heather, Autumn, Taylor and Robyn Patch; his great-grandchildren, Andrew, Joshua and Michael Storsved, all of Bismarck; his sister, Elaine Steinert, Bismarck; his brothers, Rev.
