Summary: Rudolph “Rudy” Axtman, 90, Bismarck, died September 22, 2006, at St. Vincent’s Care Center in Bismarck. Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 26 at Church of Corpus Christi in Bismarck with Rev. Ed Wehner officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Rudy was born on December 5, 1915, in Pierce County, ND, the son of Stephano “Steven” and Elizabeth (Fronk) Axtman. He married Elizabeth Wangler on November 3, 1937. He and Elizabeth farmed in Pierce County until 1969 when they moved to Bismarck. Rudy brought the Tour Ice franchise to Bismarck in 1970 and operated it until retiring in 1978. He enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, traveling, singing, playing cards, dice, and woodworking. He enjoyed singing with the Farmers Union Singing Farmers. Rudy was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church of Balta from 1915 1969, served on the Board of Trustees, and was a member of the choir. After moving to Bismarck in 1969, he became a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Anne’s Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of Bismarck; his children, Janice (Gerry) Nohr of Bothell, WA, Darold (Joan) Axtman of Pacifica, CA, Bernetta (Alfred) Haman of Bismarck, Larry Axtman (Pat Becker) of Bismarck, Laverne (Roger) Duchscher of Rugby, Jerry (Shirlene) Axtman of Bismarck, Wayne (Myra) Axtman of Hazen, Vernon Axtman (Susan Bednarz) of Bismarck, Karen (Mark) Hagel of Bismarck, Denise (Richard) Iliff of Bismarck, Curtis (Cheryl) Axtman of Beulah, and Keith (Pam) Axtman of Minot; 26 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; his brother, Ray Axtman of Monroe, WA; his sister, Eva Waller of Seattle, WA; and his in-laws, Agnes Axtman of Rugby, Michael Gisi of College Place, WA; Frank Goetz of Seattle, WA, Pauline Axtman of Bremerton, WA, Rose Axtman of Bremerton, WA, and Clayton Bell of Billings, MT. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, John, Fred, and Nick; and his sisters, Carolyn, Rose, and Isabelle.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
