Summary: Theresa R. Azure, age 67, of St. John, died on Thursday, October 5, 2006 in a Belcourt hospital. Mass of the Christian burial was held on Monday, October 9, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. in the St. Benedict Catholic Church of rural Belcourt. Burial was in the Church Cemetery. Officiating at the service was the Reverend Father John Patterson S.O.L.T. The rosary was said by David Brien. Special music was provided by Leonard Keplin, Jerry Parisien, Monica Nadeau and Mike Page. Readers were Robert Herdt, and Sue Belgarde and Alter servers were Kayla and Kristin Azure. Gift bearers were Jaime, Jenni, Michella, Kristy, Marie, Jackie, Katie, Kristin, Kayla, Megan, Addysen and Haidyn. Casket bearers were Travis Azure, Cory Poitra, Davis Blake Azure, Kelly Azure,Eric Azure, Jace Azure, Gary Hunt Jr., Kyle Azure and Cody Hunt. Honorary bearers were Dustin and Aiven Gourneau, and Avery Poitra. Theresa Rose Azure, a daughter of Walter and Mary (Schroeder) Parisien, was born on May 15, 1939 at Belcourt. As a young girl she attended the Greatwalker Country School and completed her education at the Belcourt High School. She then worked for a time in the Red River Valley on potato farms. She returned to Belcourt and on August 26, 1957 she was married to Albert Azure at Belcourt. Theresa worked at the Belcourt Hospital as a cook for several years. She then cooked for the Belcourt Senior Meals. In March of 1988 she was diagnosed with cancer and retired. Theresa was a member of the St. Benedict’s Catholic Church of rural Belcourt. She taught religious classes and played and sang in the church. Theresa njoyed gardening, tending her flowers, cooking, canning, quilting, crocheting, driving and sightseeing around the area. She enjoyed spending time with her family and babysat her grandchildren quite often. Theresa enjoyed 49 years of marriage. She is survived by her husband, Albert; daughters Betty Hunt of Belcourt, Phyllis and her husband Clark Gourneau of Belcourt, Carol and her husband Gary Hunt of St. John, and Lorraine and her husband Heath Gourneau of Belcourt; sons, Robert Azure and his wife Sandy of St. John, Dave Azure and his wife Carrie, and Kenneth Azure an his wife Shelly Azure both of Belcourt; 21 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brothers, Melvin Schroeder, William Schroeder, And Walter Schroeder all of Dunseith; sisters, Dora Ward and Cecila Azure both of Dunseith. Theresa was preceded in death by her parents; a grandchild, Jade Azure; brothers Alfred, David, and John; sisters Martha, Evelyn, and Karen.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
