Summary: Edna Bahn, age 88 of Newburg, ND passed away on June 11, 2009 at a Minot hospital. Funeral services were held in the Dovre Lutheran Church in Newburg, with burial in the curuch cemetery. Officiating at the service was the Reverend Barb Haugerud and Desiree Urich. Grace Marchand was the organist. Casket bearers were Morris Thorenson, Kelly Thorenson, Lane Watson, Bruce Watson, Craig Nelson and Ben Hinnenkamp. Edna was born November 16, 1920 to Charles and Margaret (Modig) Thorenson at the family farm south of Newburg. Edna was the youngest of five children. Edna attended Newburg School, graduating in 1937. She played basketball for two years while in high school. Edna attended Minot State Teachers College, graduating in 1940 with a teaching certificate. Edna taught at Liberty School for 1 year and then taught the first four grades at Russell School for 2 years. She taught the 7th and 8th grades at Newburg School and coached the girls’ basketball team to the Invitational Tournament Championship. In 1943 Edna married Roy Bahn in Maxbass ND. Roy passed away December 17, 1950. Edna started working at the Newburg Farmers Union as a bookkeeper in 1951. Edna retired from the Farmers Union in 1986. Edna's days were filled with visits from family and friends and she appreciated them so much. For the past two years Edna resided in the Westhope Home.Edna is survived by her son, Richard and wife Mary of Independence, MN; three grandchildren, Krissy (Craig) Nelson of Monticello, MN; Ben Bahn of Phoenix, AZ; and Kelly (Ben) Hinnenkamp of Howard Lake, MN; six great-grandchildren, Jacob, Brett, Drew and Grant Nelson, and Emily and Evan Hinnenkamp; one sister-in-law, Genevieve Thorenson; and several nieces and nephews. Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Bahn; her parents, Charles and Margaret Thorenson; her brothers, Albert Thorenson, Clarence Thorenson and Carl Thorenson; and her sister, Ruth Watson.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
