Summary: Betty L. Bain, 81, Bismarck, ND, formerly of Spokane, WA, died December 30, 2009, at St. Vincent’s Care Center, Bismarck. A memorial service was held January 2, 2010 at Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck. Rev. Bob Nordvall officiated. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be in Spokane, WA. Betty Lou Bain was born January 29, 1928 in Grand Forks, ND to Robert J. and Hulda (Ristau) Bain. She grew up in Crookston, MN, and graduated from Crookston Central High School. Following graduation, Betty and her mother moved to Spokane, WA. She was hired by Old National Bank (ONB), where she worked her way up from messenger to vice president, the first woman officer of what is now US Bank in Spokane. She completed more than a dozen American Institute of Banking (AIB) courses, and served for many years on the AIB Board of Governors. Banking was Betty’s sole occupation and her entire career was with ONB. After her retirement in 1993, Betty’s love of travel took her all over the world, including trips to Russia, China, South America, Australia, Madagascar and Africa. She was an avid gardener, and her family and friends marveled at her beautiful flowers, especially her roses, which she test grew for Jackson Perkins. Betty was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.She had a wonderful sense of humor and a big heart. She was a faithful member of Audubon Park United Methodist Church, and served as its treasurer for many years. Betty was a kind and loving soul who will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. She is survived by her brother, Robert D. Bain (Gladys), Bismarck; nephew, Steve R. Bain (Pat), and their children, Sarah, Michael (Amber) and their daughter, Avigail, Kayla (Jared) Blackwood, all of Bismarck; niece, Karen (Robert) Johnson, and their daughter, Kalena, Blaine, MN; niece, Susan (Gordon) Queen, and their children, Robert and Andrew, Evergreen, CO; nephew, Alan S. Bain (Susan), and their children, David, Erik and Krista, Savage, MN. Betty was preceded in death by her mother, Hulda; her father, Robert; her stepfather, Walter Baade, and her great-niece, Anna Johnson

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
