Summary: George Baker, age 76, of Rugby, ND, formerly of Westhope, ND, passed away May 19, 2010 in his home in Rugby. Funeral services were held in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Westhope. Officiating at the service was the Reverend Barb Haugerud. Special music was provided by Ruth Gattke and Ruby Berentson was the organist. Burial was in the IOOF Cemetery in Cando, ND. George Baker, a son of George and Pearl (Trainer) Baker Sr., was born September 3, 1933 at Rolla, ND. He was reared and educated near Rolla. On June 5, 1953 he was married to Della Omlie at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rolla. They farmed in the Rock Lake area until 1957 when they moved to Seattle, WA and he began working for the Boeing Company. In 1959 they moved to Rolla where he worked as a John Deere diesel mechanic until 1978 when they moved to Berthoud, CO. George and Della moved to Middle River, MN in 1985, where he worked as a mechanic until he retired in 1985. In 2008 they moved to Westhope where they lived until 2010 when they moved to Rugby. He enjoyed fishing, puzzles, crossword puzzles, cards and dice. George was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Westhope. He is survived by his wife, Della of Rugby; daughters, Connie (Kevin) Schroeder of Westhope, Cheryl Harmel of Rugby, Brenda Willis of Loch Buie, CO; sons, Gordon (Bernadette) Baker of Belcourt, ND, Steve (Debbie) Baker of Minot, ND, LeRoy (Bev) Baker of Ft. Lupton, CO and Donald Baker of Dacono, CO; 22 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a sister Grace Proudy of St. John, ND. George was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Wilfred and Clark; sisters, Alice Scott and Doris Sweeney; son-in-law, Dave Carroll; and a grand-daughter, Kristie Lynn Harmel.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
