Summary: Elias “Al” Kuntz, 81, Mandan, ND, died November 29, 2008, at his home. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, December 5, 2008, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with Rev. Patrick Schumacher as celebrant. Burial was at Mandan Union Cemetery. Al was born March 5, 1927 in Raleigh, ND, the son of John and Alisia (Klitzel) Kuntz. Al owned and operated Al’s Service Station in Bismarck. Al was a gifted mechanic and delivered farm machinery for Massey Ferguson. He continued his employment as a mechanic with Midway Diesel and Electric until his retirement in 2007. Al married his sweetheart, Cathy Lample, in Mandan, on her birthday, January 7. They shared 30 wonderful years together. Al enjoyed his bowling league, playing cards, and listening and dancing to polka music. Al’s greatest joy was his wife, children and grandchildren. He had a special bond and spent much time with his grandson, Jerry. Al will be remembered as a kind, man. He was never hasty to judge people and was slow to anger. When something went wrong, he was always there to lend a helping hand. He touched the hearts of many and brought joy and laughter to those who knew him. Al will be sadly missed and his life will be celebrated with joyful memories. Al leaves behind a loving family including his wife, Cathy, Mandan; one son, Lenny (Tonja) Kuntz, Washington; five daughters, Lennette Kuntz and her special friend, Jerry Tibke, Sue McGough and special friend, Mason Conklin, Sheri (Lee) Whitmire, Lila (Duane) Peterson, all of Bismarck, and Sheila Rhone and her special friend, Tory Edstedt, Minneapolis, MN; 18 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; three sisters, Barb Smith, Laurel, MT, Frances Kraft, Bismarck and Helen Hetherington, Yakima, WA. Al was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ann Ternes and Katherine Johnson; four brothers, Valentine, Pete, Nick, and Ray Kuntz; and a granddaughter, Angela Kuntz.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
