Summary: Florence E. Footitt passed away at the Carrington Health Center, Carrington, ND, on December 15, 2017, at the age of 103 years. She entered Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in New Rockford, ND, on March 28, 2017, and moved to the Golden Acres Manor Nursing Home in Carrington, on April 21. A funeral service, officiated by Rev. Rick Loewen, was held in the spring with interment in the Carrington Cemetery. Florence Elnora Posey, known to all as “Dolly,” was born October 4, 1914, in Revillo, SD, the daughter of Forest “Dick” and Carrie (Lasher) Posey. The family moved to the Melville, ND, area where Dolly attended grade school. They later moved to Carrington where Dolly attended high school. She married Lester Footitt on June 1, 1934, at Cathay, ND. They made their home in Carrington where Lester drove truck and raised potatoes. In her early years Dolly worked at the Donald Duck Bottling Company and the Carrington Creamery. She later worked at the Carrington Hardware Store and the Five and Dime Store in Carrington. For a number of years Dolly and Lester ran a little restaurant called “The Dairy Bar” where you could get the best burger in town, not to mention the unusual items such as chocolate covered insects and frog legs! It was a place for good coffee, conversation, and always fun times. She finished her working days at the Carrington Health Center where she cooked in the kitchen for a number of years before retirement. She continued to cook at the hospital kitchen on an “as needed” basis even after her retirement into her early 80s because she loved working and staying busy. Dolly enjoyed spending time with family and friends, celebrating the Birthday Club, baking, sewing, quilting, gardening, music, birds, animals (especially her kitty named Kate), and shopping. There were many shopping trips to Jamestown, Harvey, and Minot, and she could outshop the best every time! Whenever you visited Dolly, she always had something baked ready and waiting and insisted on serving it. She was extremely talented on her sewing machine and made most of her children’s clothing as they grew up, matching dresses for her granddaughters, and continuing to make blouses and beautiful things most of her life. Many people around Carrington probably have warm feet thanks to the slippers that were made by Dolly or they are drying their dishes with her embroidered dishtowels, or wiping their hands on her cute kitchen towels, or snuggling up under a quilt made by Dolly. Dolly was a member of the Federated Church in Carrington. She lived by the Golden Rule. She enjoyed attending church and singing the church hymns, the church potluck dinners, women’s guild, and the church Holiday Fair bazaar. People lined up at the church Holiday Fair bazaar and the Foster County Fair to buy her baked goodies, especially her divinity, donuts, long johns, breads, jams, bars, cookies, and pies. Dolly is survived by daughters, Suzanne (Lowell) Kriewald, Bellevue, NE, and Sandra Guenther, Seattle, WA; grandchildren, Patti (Gregg) Mayerich, Paula (Dave) Loegering, all of Fargo, ND, Robyn Kriewald, Carmichael, CA, Sean (Alison) Kriewald, Bellevue, and Brad Guenther, Seattle, WA; 11 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; and special son-in-law, Oscar Clapper. Dolly was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Footitt, on February 13, 2003; daughter, Joanne Clapper; sisters, Marjorie Galt and Janet Nordeen; brothers, Lawson, Tom, and Richard “Dick” Posey; granddaughter, Nancy (Garland) Olson; grandson, Mitch Guenther; and great-granddaughter, Tanya Lindblad.All Dolly’s friends and family were very special to her. Very near and dear to her heart was her niece Marleen (Bob) Galt and great nephew Jeffrey (Becky) Galt and family. Dolly was an angel on earth and is now an angel in heaven. Her warmth, kindness, laughter, love, sense of adventure and “witty comments” will be with us forever. We will remember her as a woman of beauty and grace. We were honored to have this woman as part of our family and community. She truly was the Queen of Carrington.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
