Summary: David M. Young, 64, Sykeston, ND, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family January 9, 2023, after his 6 month battle with cancer. His funeral service was held January 14, 2023, at Bethel Assembly of God Church, Carrington, ND. Burial was at the Sykeston Cemetery. David Mark was born November 14, 1958, in Carrington, to Norman and Donna (Aarhus) Young. He grew up in rural Sykeston on the Young family farm. He attended and graduated from Sykeston Public School in 1977. During high school he worked for Ray Grager. After high school he attended NDSCS for architectural drafting and graduated in 1979. Once he completed college, he moved back to Sykeston. On June 9, 1984, he married Gina Garrity. They made their home in Sykeston and had two daughters. David’s passion was farming, and he worked alongside his dad until Norman retired and took over the family farm. David also kept busy by driving bus for SHS and then became a full-time mail carrier in 1988 for the post office in Sykeston. He was with the postal service for 32 years and retired in 2015. David’s life was his family. He would never miss a birthday, graduation, or any celebration. He always showed up or made sure you knew he was thinking about you. David had three grandkids and they were the light of his life. He was an amazing grandpa. David was a soft-spoken person most of the time until the Minnesota Vikings were playing. He enjoyed watching them play and attended a few games. He spent many weekends going to the races with his good friend Todd Grager watching Trent Grager race. David also looked forward to every Arizona trip to visit his brother Lynn. David is survived by his wife, Gina Young, of Sykeston, ND; two daughter, Emily Young and Libby (Jerome) Lies, both of Sykeston; grandchildren, Ashtyn, Owen, Crew Lies of Sykeston; three siblings, Lynn (Bernette) Young, Mesa, AZ, Lori (Roger) Nymark, Georgetown, MN, and Joni (Randy) Love, Bismarck, ND; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother; and grandparents. David touched the hearts of many and will be missed dearly.
