Summary: Kenneth Lenerville Date of Death: 02/15/1975 Special Deputy Reeder, North Dakota Ken Lenerville was living in an upstairs dwelling of his Variety store at Reeder, N.D. next to the Farmers Union Co-op Store, when he noticed someone in the Farmers Union Co-op Store. He called the Chief of Police, Rangvald Peterson, and with the help of Reeder City Mayor, Tex Byers, the three officers attempted to apprehend the burglars. While the burglars were coming out of the store, they began shooting and Ken Lenerville was hit in the chest standing behind a vehicle across the street. Chief of Police Peterson was also injured from flying glass and taken to the Rapid City, S.D. hospital. Lenerville was dead at the scene and Byers was not injured. Suspects David Moe and a 16-year-old juvenile were apprehended at Mott, N.D. after law enforcement banded together and made a futile search for the suspects. Kenneth Lenerville’s funeral was held at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Reeder, N.D. on February 19, 1975, at 2:00 p.m. Kenneth Lenerville had been Chief of Police of Reeder prior to Rangvald Peterson becoming Chief of Police.
