Summary: Chris became a member of the Capital City Lions club in 1970. He held all club offices and was secretary-treasurer for many years. He received the International 100% President and many 100% Secretary awards. He originated the CCLC Journey for Sight volleyball tournament which was highly successful for six years. The tournament proceeds were donated to Dakota Radio Information Service. His district involvement began with two consecutive terms as zone chairman, and district committee chairmanships. During 1984-1985 he was 5NC District Governor. Chris was the Director of Dakota Radio Information Service, and ND Lions Quest Facilitator. Lion Chris attended most State Conventions, twelve MD5 Conventions, seven International Conventions, and seven USA/Canada Lions Leadership Forums. Lion Chris received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award from District 5NC, the International President’s Leadership Medal, three International President Certificates of Appreciation, the 100% District Governor designation, the Extension and Guiding Lion Awards, District Governor Appreciation Award, Key Award, and Perfect Attendance Award. Chris was a force in the formation of the ND LION News, which became a reality and continues today. While Governor Lion Chris became involved with Dakota Radio Information Service, which provides reading service to the blind. The District authorized him to write a grant application to the International Foundation for funds to expand the service to Minot. This grant was awarded to expand to Minot and service to Williston and Dickinson and later to all of ND. Lion Chris was deeply involved with the Quest program since 1984. In November 1988, Lions Clubs International selected Chris as a ND Lions Quest Facilitator to conduct school briefings statewide. Chris and wife Jan’s commitment to Youth Exchange was ongoing. They hosted Johanna from Finland three times, and Michelle from France, and Julie from Australia. They went to Australia to visit Julie and her family. They planned a trip to Finland to visit Johanna, and returned to Australia for another visit with Julie. Chris was a lifelong Bismarck resident and graduated from BSC in 1952; later he graduated with honors from Mary College and completed course work for a Masters of Public Administration at UND. Lion Chris worked as a program specialist with Job Service of North Dakota. He also operated the family farm as the third-generation owner. Lion Chris was an Army Sergeant Major. At retirement, he had more than thirty-two years of service. Sixteen years were on active duty and the remainder was in the ND National Guard. He served multiple tours in Europe and Asia. Chris and Jan had five daughters. Chris was a member of First Presbyterian. His non-Lion activities involved youth and community. He was active in, and a director of, the Bismarck Chemical Health Foundation. He was a member of the Masons, Elks, Farm Bureau, and the American Legion.

Summary: The Hall of Fame award is the most prestigious honor for Lions at the state level. The first hall of Fame awards were given in 1982. Although this award has been a function of the Past District Governors Association, a recipient does not have to be a PDG to qualify but can be any Lion who has shown considerable dedication over a period of years. Nominees are judged by their activities on behalf of their home club, his or her district projects, North Dakota Lions programs, as well as those Multiple District 5 and Lions Clubs International. The committee also takes note of other community involvement outside of Lions. It is a great honor to be nominated for this prestigious recognition.
