Summary: Hadley Seeklander became a Lion in 1962 when he helped Hazelton’s school superintendent charter a new Lions Club in Hazelton. Hadley was the second president of the Hazelton Lions Club. Through the years he also held the offices of vice president, secretary, and director. On the district level he served as zone chairman, deputy district governor, and then as 5NW District Governor for 1969-1970. Hadley served a second term as district governor in 1970-71. Hadley organized one new club in District 5NW as a zone chairman. He organized four more new clubs while he was district governor. Lions Clubs International hired Hadley to the position of International Staff Representative for Multiple District 5 (North and South Dakota and Saskatchewan) in 1972. His job was to increase membership through extension of new clubs. At that time, MD5 had 7500 Lions members. Ten years later, the Multiple District had grown to 15,000 members. Later, Nebraska, Montana, Alberta, the Northwest Territories, and part of British Columbia were added to his service territory. Hadley organized more than 300 Lions Clubs during the time he was employed by Lions International. He was recognized for his accomplishments throughout his years of service with Presidential Awards from five International Presidents. In 1979-80, Hadley was presented with the Outstanding Extension and Membership Achievement Award from International President Lloyd Morgan of New Zealand. He was the only one in North America to receive the award. Hadley received numerous other awards through the years, including eight special Extension Awards from Lions Clubs International and seven other International medals. He personally sponsored more than 47 Lion members, and has a Senior Master Key Award. He is a progressive Melvin Jones Fellow, and was the first Lion to be named to the North Dakota Lions Hall of Fame. Hadley was named to Who’s Who in North Dakota in 1976. He was selected for his outstanding achievements in business, government, and community affairs.

Summary: The Hall of Fame award is the most prestigious honor for Lions at the state level. The first hall of Fame awards were given in 1982. Although this award has been a function of the Past District Governors Association, a recipient does not have to be a PDG to qualify but can be any Lion who has shown considerable dedication over a period of years. Nominees are judged by their activities on behalf of their home club, his or her district projects, North Dakota Lions programs, as well as those Multiple District 5 and Lions Clubs International. The committee also takes note of other community involvement outside of Lions. It is a great honor to be nominated for this prestigious recognition.
