Summary: Lion Lyle joined the Fargo Lions, October 1958. Lion Les Wands sponsored him. He held all offices in his club except that of secretary and held chairmanships on different committees within District 5NE as well as working to organize conventions. He was an able tail twister and seminar leader. He was invited to attend the USA Lions training program in St. Louis, MO as one of the table discussion leaders. He was elected as District Governor in 1976-77 and attended a training session in Hawaii. During his term of office, six new Lions clubs were started in 5NE, for which Lion Lyle received an award from the International President Joao Sobral of Brazil. The district grew during his year’s activities. Lion Lyle helped campaign for Bill Gackle for International Director. He led the parade in Saskatoon which stimulated the victory for his Multiple District 5 nomination for this position. Lion Bill went on to become the International Director. Lion Lyle attended International Conventions in Hawaii, Atlantic City, Phoenix and Chicago, and participated in most activities of the convention: marching, passing out materials, and pin trading, always doing what he could to make the conventions successful. Lion Lyle received honors from his club: Lion of the Year, Melvin Jones Fellowship, and other recognitions for committee work in which he participated. Lyle received the Senior Counselor Award in 1987. In 1989, he received an International Presidents Award. He was also a key member for sponsoring new Lions. Lyle enjoyed conventions and Lions meetings since he enjoyed the fellowship and friendships developed over these many years. His love of music made him somewhat of a song leader and this helped to enliven the programs. He wrote words and music for many campaigns, and he said that most were successful in winning their position. Lyle was a salesperson, selling building materials and installation of steel siding. Lion Lyle was very active in the community. He worked on many civic committees, business associations, and organizations in the construction field. He traveled most of the USA introducing new products. He saw a need for a marketing firm to develop distribution for new products invented and produced by North Dakota natives. His goal was to establish a sales organization that might help new inventors reach the market with a marketable product. Lion Lyle lived in Fargo, with his wife Elaine. She was also an avid Lion and attended most Lions functions with Lyle. She would always bring “Poppy Cock” for the hospitality rooms. Lyle and Elaine have two children and five grandchildren. His family attended the Edgewood United Methodist Church and he was on the administration board and sang in the choir. Lyle writes music for the church and has hadmthree published compositions. He shares his music with many throughout he USA and this is his forte in his religious outreach.

Summary: The Hall of Fame award is the most prestigious honor for Lions at the state level. The first hall of Fame awards were given in 1982. Although this award has been a function of the Past District Governors Association, a recipient does not have to be a PDG to qualify but can be any Lion who has shown considerable dedication over a period of years. Nominees are judged by their activities on behalf of their home club, his or her district projects, North Dakota Lions programs, as well as those Multiple District 5 and Lions Clubs International. The committee also takes note of other community involvement outside of Lions. It is a great honor to be nominated for this prestigious recognition.
