Summary: Glen C. Vantine was a member of the Bismarck Lions Club for 60 years. Even when retired and living in Arizona, he maintained his membership in the Bismarck club. As a member of the Bismarck Lions, Glenn served in just about every capacity available in Lionism. He was on the club’s board of directors before becoming its president in 1944-1945 and was zone chairman the very next year. In 1946-1947, Glen became District Governor for the North Dakota-Saskatchewan District. Along with his wife, Leola, Glenn was very active in District, Multiple District, and International Lions affairs. He attended ten International Conventions, 41 District 5N Conventions, and 15 North Dakota State Conventions. He and Lion Arvid Wiklund helped organize the first North Dakota Convention for Lions, and he also served as a senior counselor, which at that time was a high honor in International Lionsism. In 1981, Glenn was named Lion of the Year by his local club. He received the Melvin Jones Fellowship, and was named as International Councilor by Lions International. Of the twenty Lions clubs the Bismarck Lions Club sponsored over the years, he and his wife Leola attended the 50th anniversary party of ten of those clubs. He remained very active in Lions affairs and activities even into his retirement. In Bismarck, Glen was extremely active in community and civic affairs. He served on the Bismarck school board for nine years, was president of the Bismarck Chamber of Commerce and the Bismarck Junior College Scholarship Committee, along with being president of Bismarck’s entry in the Man-Dak Semi-Pro Baseball League. He was a member of the board of directors of the Bismarck Hospital, was president of the Missouri Valley Council of Boy Scouts, and in 1963 received the Silver Beaver, one of Scouting’s highest awards. Glen was an active member in the First Presbyterian Church of Bismarck and was only the second person in the history of that church to receive its Caring Citation. He served on the ruling board of elders for 22 years after being ordained an elder in 1944. At the time of his death, he and his wife Leola were living in Mesa, Arizona.

Title: SHSND Foundation - Lions International Hall of Fame
Date:

Summary: The Hall of Fame award is the most prestigious honor for Lions at the state level. The first hall of Fame awards were given in 1982. Although this award has been a function of the Past District Governors Association, a recipient does not have to be a PDG to qualify but can be any Lion who has shown considerable dedication over a period of years. Nominees are judged by their activities on behalf of their home club, his or her district projects, North Dakota Lions programs, as well as those Multiple District 5 and Lions Clubs International. The committee also takes note of other community involvement outside of Lions. It is a great honor to be nominated for this prestigious recognition.
