Summary: Selfless! Dedicated! Capable! These characteristics best describe Past District Governor M.L. (Stub) Williams, who has been the chief motivator and key to the Lions activities of the Bismarck Lions Club. In addition, PDG Stub is always readily available for work on a district level and he is one of the most active Past District Governors within District 5NC. The word “No” does not appear to be part of the PDG Stub’s vocabulary and when he is asked to accept a job or a responsibility, it is virtually inevitable that he will accept the task. An example of this the fact that he has served on at least two occasions as Secretary of the Bismarck Lions Club when the previous secretaries resigned or were unable to continue. When he accepts a job—any job—it is done and done well! Stub Williams was born January 14, 1921 at Ipswich, South Dakota. He Married his wife Aurora and they have three children, Meredith, Beth Ann, and Jonathan. He attended Ipswich High School and Northern State College, Aberdeen, SD. He was active in the Military four and one-half years as Pilot in U.S. Marine Air Corps, serving 14 months in the South Pacific. Lion Stub worked 38 years with Mobil Oil corporation ending as Area Manager for North Dakota and Montana. Lion Stub spent 27 years of Lionism in the Lions clubs at Aberdeen, SD, Minot, ND, and Bismarck, ND. He held all club offices, several more than once. He was President of the Bismarck Lions Club 1979-80; Co-Chairman MD- 5 Convention 1982; Program Chairman 1991-92 ND State Lions convention; Served on District Governors Cabinet 1983-84, 1986-87, 1987-88, 1988-89, 1989-90, 1990-91, and 1991-92; He was District 5 NC membership Chairman for three year period starting July 1, 1991; Zone Chairman 1984-85; District Governor 5 NC 1985-86; North Dakota Lions foundation 1985-87; chairman All Star Basketball Games 1987; Secretary Bismarck Lions Club 1984-85, 1985-86, 1989-90, 1990-91, 1991-92; district Trainer for 5 NC 1986-1990. MD-5 Council of governors 1985-87; He started the first Lions/Quest Teacher Training Sessions in North Dakota. He received 100% Club President Award and 100% District Governor Award. He was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow Award from Bismarck Lions Club. He received an International Directors Certificate of Appreciation; International President’s Certificate of Appreciation for 1991-92; Served as Chairman or member of numerous convention and All-Star Basketball committees. He attended three International Conventions. He attended on USA/Canada Forum; Attended 11 MD-5 Conventions, and all of ND Lions State Conventions; One Extension Award and two Membership Key Awards. He was a presenter at numerous MD- 5 and State Conventions. One of the fund-raising and community projects of the Bismarck Lions Club is a Travelogue series, in which Lion Stub has always played an important role. He also has answered the call whenever a convention is to be planned and he has performed numberless tasks with in the club. Doing each one of them in the highest standards of a good Lion. A dedicated father and family man, PDG Stub also has been active in community activities, having chaired a number of projects, the latest being the acquisition of an organ for his church. He has always been involved in school activities with his children and his civic pride and his citizenship have always been readily apparent. As a Lion, PDG Stub is a rare specimen. He lives his Lionism as few do. He takes apart—an active part—in all conventions. He strives in the best traditions of Lionism to promote the programs of Lions International and to encourage Lions at the local level to take part in community projects. He is always there to work when there are projects that must be performed. While he was District Governor, he was instrumental in starting the first Lions/Quest teacher training sessions in the state. He is a Melvin Jones Fellow, having received this award from his own club, and he was 100% President and received the 100% District Governor’s Award. He was the Co-Chairman of the 1982 Multiple District 5 Convention and he was a District Trainer for three years. PDG Lion Stub has been the recipient of the International Director’s Certificate of Appreciation. Community service other than Lionism, Lion Stub was chairman of March of Dimes Campaign in Aberdeen, 1958; President of Bethlehem Lutheran Church Congregation in Aberdeen, 1959. He was on the Board of Deacons, Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, ND 1971- 1975. He was Chairman on the Trinity Board of Deacons in 1975. He was Chairman of the Bismarck Chapter of SCORE (Service Corp of Retired Executives) 1986-1988. SCORE Counselor since 1984. He was Chairman of the Organ Fund Drive, Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, ND 1988. He was a member of Junior chamber of Commerce in Aberdeen for 10 years. First vice President in 1958. He received the International Peace Gardener Award from Governor Arthur Link. A successful businessman in his own right, Lion Stub has acted as the Bismarck president of SCORE which does volunteer counseling for small businesses. He was a navy pilot in the World War II and was in the South Pacific for 14 months. He is a Lion who exemplifies all that is good about Lionism. It has been instrumental part of his life for years. He continues even now to perform tasks that are asked of him. He is above all a good person, a hard worker and totally devoted to Lionism.

Title: SHSND Foundation - Lions International Hall of Fame
Date:

Summary: The Hall of Fame award is the most prestigious honor for Lions at the state level. The first hall of Fame awards were given in 1982. Although this award has been a function of the Past District Governors Association, a recipient does not have to be a PDG to qualify but can be any Lion who has shown considerable dedication over a period of years. Nominees are judged by their activities on behalf of their home club, his or her district projects, North Dakota Lions programs, as well as those Multiple District 5 and Lions Clubs International. The committee also takes note of other community involvement outside of Lions. It is a great honor to be nominated for this prestigious recognition.
