Summary: Glenn D. Colcord (1879-1950) published the Ward County Independent in Minot for 47 years. He began his career working on the Daily Standard in his hometown, Sterling, Ill, and later edited the Tri-County Free Press at Millidgeville In 1902, after homesteading near Glenburn, N.D., Glenn D. Colcord became a reporter for the Ward County Reporter, one of the forerunners of the Minot Daily News. The following year he became a partner with C.F. Truax and began printing the Independent. In the first years of publication the paper was printed on a Washington hand press. Colcord continued working on the editorial side of the paper until 1941. In 1914 he served as president of the North Dakota Press Association, and in 1957 became the 14th inductee into the North Dakota Newspaper Hall of Fame.
