Summary: William P. Davies (1862-1944), editor of the Grand Forks Herald for 47 years, entered the North Dakota Newspaper Hall of Fame in 1951 as its 12th member. A Canadian, Davies came to North Dakota in 1882 as a surveyor's assistant and later taught school and sold insurance in the Grand Forks area. After starting newspaper work at the Northwest News and the Grand Forks Plaindealer, he joined the editorial staff of the Herald in 1897, and also wrote a column, That Reminds Me, for 14 years. A resident of Grand Forks for 51 years, Davies came to be known as the foremost citizen of his community.

  • “Digitized Images from the Collection” returns a list of all digitized items within that collection (available from the “Collection Summary” screen).
