Summary: Francis "Pete" Denison was co-publisher and editor of the Towner County Record-Herald for 33 years. He was a dedicated small-town publisher who served his family, church and community while assuming leadership roles in the North Dakota Newspaper Association. He worked with his publisher-pastor-father, George B. Denison, in the 1920s and then went off on his own, working for the J.C. Penney Co. until 1947 when he and brother Bob purchased the Record-Herald from their father. They were co-publishers until Pete and his wife, Blanche, purchased R.D. "Bob" Denison's share in 1974. When his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Kathie, joined the paper in 1979, Pete was named publisher emeritus. Pete and Blanche were staunch supporters of community projects. He was a charter member of the Cando Promoters in 1965, a charter member of the Durum Triangle Industrial Park Corporation, a Cando Commercial Club officer and a member of the Cando Centennial steering committee. He was a city council member for 20 years and served as mayor from 1974 to 1978. Pete was a member of the NDNA Board of Directors from 1958-1964 and served as president 1962-1963. He died March 6, 1985. In 1995 Pete and his wife, Blanche, were inducted together into the North Dakota Newspaper Hall of Fame.
