Summary: Glen Froseth retired as owner and publisher of the Kenmare News in 1988 when he sold the business to his son, Terry, but still remains active in production of the newspaper and with commercial printing at The News. After his graduation in 1955 from the North Dakota State College of Science at Wahpeton, Froseth went to work at the Divide County Journal in Crosby as a linotype operator. Presented with an opportunity to operate his own newspaper, he purchased the Kenmare News in 1968. He brought photo journalism to The Kenmare News at a time when most weekly newspapers were still using the letterpress printing process, and his was among the first newspapers of its size to hire full-time reporters and sales representatives. His newspaper was among the first in the state to make the switch from letterpress to offset printing, and in 1972 he was one of the leaders in a group that founded one of the first central offset printing plants in the state. For more than 20 years he wrote a column called "For What It's Worth," and after serving seven years on the North Dakota Newspaper Association's board of directors he was elected president in 1984. He also served on the NDNA Education Foundation board and on several of the association's committees. In 1992 Froseth was elected to the North Dakota House of Representatives, and during his 24 years of service advocated often for issues of concern to newspapers, including public notices and government transparency. In 1986 he acquired the entire contents of the Berthold Tribune, the state's last letterpress newspaper, to create a newspaper museum at the State College of Science at Wahpeton. The museum was later moved to the State Fairgrounds in Minot. More recently Froseth also created a newspaper museum at the Pioneer Village in Kenmare, containing equipment, from letterpress through computers, onced used at the Kenmare News. Within his community, Froseth has given his time and leadership to numerous organizations and fundraisers. He is a charter member and past president of the Kenmare Commnity Development Corporation, and was successful in assisting with the start-up or recruitment of several businesses and industries to the community.
