Summary: Grant S. Hager (1865-1923) was elected the fifth member of the North Dakota Press Hall of Fame in 1935. Upon coming to the Territory of North Dakota in 1886, he engaged in production of the St. Thomas Times, established a year earlier by his brother, Jacob. They formed a partnership to publish the North Dakota Sun in Elgin and the Pembina County Tribune at Neche. When the partnership terminated in 1885, operation of the unprofitable Sun and Tribune was suspended, and Hager turned his energies to the Times. He continued the Times until 1908 when he purchased the Walsh County Record in Grafton, which he operated until 1922. He served as president of the North Dakota Press Association in 1903. Hager served in a variety of offices at St. Thomas, and was one of the leaders of the Progressive Republican movement in the state from 1906-1912.
