Summary: Pius Hornstein (1920-1999) started a 50-year newspaper career following his discharge from the U.S. Army after World War II. For 16 years he worked with his brother, Frank Hornstein, at the Pierce County Tribune in Rugby, first as a printer and later as shop forman. He purchased the Tioga Tribune at Tioga, ND in July 1961 and operated it until his retirement in 1995. Hornstein was a member of the North Dakota Newspaper Association for 34 years, receiving his 50 year club award in 1995. He constructed a radio station in Tioga in 1965, which was later sold, and in July of 1972 purchased the Tioga Theatre. Hornstein was an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Knights of Columbus and also the Elks Lodge. Notable among his many cvic commitments are service to the Tioga Hospital Board, the Tioga Chamber of Commerce and establishing the Tioga Investment Corporation. He was chosen as an honorary member of the Tioga High School Future Farmers of America, and served as president of the Tioga Country Club during the period when it transitioned from sand to grass greens. He was inducted into the North Dakota Newspaper Hall of Fame in 2000.
