Summary: Marshall H. Jewell (1857-1911) became the sixth member of the Hall of Fame in 1936. He arrived in Bismarck with another newspaper man, Stanley Huntley, in 1878, after having worked at The Clipper in Cedar Springs, Mich., and the Daily Courier and The Telegram in Chicago. In 1883 they purchased the Bismarck Tribune from Col. Clement Lounsberry, but Huntley left after one year. Lounsberry returned to the Tribune as editor, and Jewell took charge of the job department. Three years later Jewell took complete charge of the paper, which had been a daily since 1881. Jewell beame a prominent political figure, serving as secretary of the Republican Territorial Central Committee for several years, and was elected secretary of the state central committee in 1893. In 1903 he was appointed registrar of the Bismarck land office, a position he held until his death in 1911.
