Summary: Fern E. Lee, the 31st North Dakotan inducted into the North Dakota Newspaper Hall of Fame in 1990, was a leader, a legislator and a newspaper editor. She became newspaper editor of the Mouse River Farmers Press in Towner in 1943. She remained editor until 1960. While working at the newspaper she was president of the Northwest North Dakota Newspaper Association in 1960. She was co-founder and charter vice president of the North Dakota Press Women in 1950. From 1951-53 she served as president of the organization. From 1956-57 she was national treasurer of the Federation of Press Women. In 1956 she was named Press Woman of Achievement, one of 13 so honored. Lee entered the field of politics in 1950 as secretary of the McHenry County Republican Party and member of the executive board. She went on to become vice chairman of District 7 Republicans.
