Summary: Stella Irene Mann (1892-1973), who was publisher of The Bismarck Tribune from 1936 to 1962, was inducted into the North Dakota Newspaper Hall of Fame in 1980 with Harry O'Brien. They became the 23rd and 24th members of the Hall of Fame and the first two to be inducted in the same year. The former Stella Irene Hilleboe was a native of Buxton, N.D., graduated from the University of North Dakota and earned a Master of Arts degree in 1927 from the University of Iowa. She taught in public schools and at teachers colleges beforemarrying George D. Mann, publisher of the Bismarck Tribune, in 1929. When he died in 1936 she became active in management of The Tribune, retiring as publisher in 1962 but retaining the title of president of the company. In 1961, she was one of four persons cited by UND for distinguished service, and in October, 1973, she was honored as one of the seven outstanding senior women in North Dakota.
