Summary: Melvin M. Oppegard (1891-1969), was publisher of the Grand Forks Herald for 40 years until 1969. He beame the 17th member of the North Dakota Newspaper Hall of Fame in 1972. After beginning work on his hometown newspaper in Madison, Minn., in 1908, Oppegard went to college in St. Paul, Minn. In 1913 he joined the Associated Press, and in 1920 he beame northwest manager for the wire service. He bought the Herald in 1929 with the Ridder Brothers and Leo E. Owens, becoming publisher and later the editor of the paper when W.P Davies died in 1944.

The “DETAILS” button provides additional information about an item, as well as the following options:

  • “Collection Summary” details the contents of the entire collection in which the selected item is located.
  • You can print the image and its corresponding details by selecting “Print".
  • “Digitized Images from the Collection” returns a list of all digitized items within that collection (available from the “Collection Summary” screen).
