Summary: Harry E. Polk (1887-1971) was the 19th inductee into the North Dakota Newspaper Hall of Fame. He was elected in 1974. Polk published his first newspaper in South Dakota, and later was a reporter for the Kansas City Star. A 1917 graduate of the University of North Dakota, Polk enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War I. He beame manager of the Minnewaukan newspaper in 1919. In 1924 Polk bought the Williston Herald, which he ran for 37 years. He also published the Plentywood, Mont., Herald from 1928 until about 1960, and he helped establish the Daily News in Havre, Mont., in the 1930's. Polk served as president of the North Dakota Press Association in 1951, and was also a member of the association's legislative and Hall of Fame committees.

  • “Digitized Images from the Collection” returns a list of all digitized items within that collection (available from the “Collection Summary” screen).
