Summary: Fred Roble (1883-1964) was the 20th inductee of the North Dakota Newspaper Association's Hall of Fame. Roble started his 64 years of newspapering as a tramp printer and his first trip was to Devils Lake in 1899, where he became a printer and clerk. In 1901, he started work at a print shop in Granville, and in 1907 moved to Mohall to work for the Mohall News. A year later he went into the newspaper business at Deering and published the Deering Enterprise from 1909 to 1921. For the next four years he did not work in the newspaper business, but in 1925 he purchased the Granville Herald, which he and his wife published for the next 27 years. In 1947 he served as president of the North Dakota Press Association. In 1952 the Robles sold the Herald but continued to operate the Granville print shop and wrote news and features for the Herald, retaining responsibility as editor and publisher of the newspaper.

  • You can print the image and its corresponding details by selecting “Print".
  • “Digitized Images from the Collection” returns a list of all digitized items within that collection (available from the “Collection Summary” screen).
