Summary: Dosia J. Shults was dedicated to his community and the newspaper profession. He provided $100,000 to the North Dakota Newspaper Education Foundation to sponsor journalism-related activities and education. He supported numerous community projects including the Hettinger hospital, Hillcrest Care Center and Dakota Buttes Historical Society. During his life he was publisher and owner of the Adams County Record, Mott Pioneer Press, Hettinger County Herald at New England, Bowman County Pioneer, Western Call of Reeder and part-owner in the Scranton Star and Slope County Post at Amidon. Shults was president of the North Dakota Newspaper Association in 1938 and a long-time member of the Montana Chapter of Sigma Delta Chi, Society of Professional Journalists, Upon his death, his estate provided more than $660,000 in bequests outside of the family. Besides the sizeable contribution to the ND Newspaper Education Foundation, he left: $100,000 to the University of Montana, $100,000 to the Hettinger Hospital and $100,000 to the Historical Society. He was inducted into the North Dakota Newspaper Hall of Fame in 1992.

Summary: The Hall of Honors features the biographies of recognized leaders in North Dakota's newspaper industry. This resource is sponsored by the North Dakota Newspaper Association and the NDNA Education Foundation.

The “DETAILS” button provides additional information about an item, as well as the following options:

  • You can print the image and its corresponding details by selecting “Print".
  • “Digitized Images from the Collection” returns a list of all digitized items within that collection (available from the “Collection Summary” screen).
