Summary: Ralph T. Shults was editor of the Mott Pioneer Press for 17 years, from 1950 to 1967. He moved to Hettinger in 1967 where he was the production manager of the Adams County Record. He retired in 1986. He also published the North Dakota Wildlife Federation's paper, "Flickertales" for several years. He is best known for his dedication to family, the community and the newspaper profession. He was active in the North Dakota Newspaper Association and served on the legislative committee. As a newspaperman, he was conscientious about publicizing the activities of the organizations he belonged to, as well as events of his local community. He was active in the North Dakota and National American Legion, North Dakota American Legion Press Association, Roughriders Voiture 696 Forty et Eight, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6300, West River Shrine Club, Royal Arch Masons, Eastern Star, El Zagel Desert Patrol, Johnson Melary Post 115 of American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Masonic Lodge, Lions Club, the Elks, the ND wildlife Federation and Boy Scouts. Shults was president of the North Dakota Press Association in 1972. He was also a long-time member of the Sigma Delta Chi, Society of Professional Journalists. He wea entered into the North Dakota Newspaper Hall of Fame in 1992.

The “DETAILS” button provides additional information about an item, as well as the following options:

  • You can print the image and its corresponding details by selecting “Print".
  • “Digitized Images from the Collection” returns a list of all digitized items within that collection (available from the “Collection Summary” screen).
