Summary: Kenneth W. Simons (1898-1948) was editor of the Bismarck Tribune when it won the Pulitzer prize for distinguished and meritorious public service in 1938. The prize was awarded the Tribune for supporting irrigation and diversified farming as a self help program for the dust bowl. Simons was a member of North Dakota's first state water commission and served a term as vice-chairman. He first started his newspaper work with papers in Springfield, Ohio, and later worked for the Associated Press in Illinois before being transferred to Bismarck in 1925. In 1930 Simons was named editor of the Tribune, a post he held until his death in 1948. He was elected to the North Dakota Newspaper Association's Hall of Fame in 1973, the 18th member.
