Summary: Roger (Rog) Higgins began his broadcasting career in 1956 with KBOM in New Mexico before becoming the sports director for KXMB Bismarck/Mandan until March of 1959. In the fall of the same year Rog accepted a position with Meyer Broadcasting Company for KFYR and had his first play-by-play broadcast two years later. He would stay with the company until his retirement from it in 1989. By 1964 Rog was named sports director for radio and television. It didn’t stop there, however. Rog continued to live out his love for sports broadcasting by working for KLXX in Bismarck. He became the celebrated voice of the University of Mary Marauders by broadcasting play-by-plays of the school’s football and basketball teams. Rog was honored with nominations for the State’s Sportscaster of the Year Award for several years and was awarded it in both 1971 and 1975. In 1989 Rog was presented with a special award from the NDHSAA for dedicating much of his time to broadcasting for high school activities. And, in 1977, he was inducted into the University of Mary Hall of Fame as the “Voice of the Marauders.”
