Summary: Bob Kerr was an instrumental part in the broadcasting of various Fighting Sioux games in nearly every sport to both the Grand Forks area and the entire state of North Dakota. Over the course of Kerr’s leadership within the WDAZ and the Fighting Sioux Sports Network, he served over 300,000 households throughout North Dakota, South Dakota, and western Minnesota, bringing the joy of Fighting Sioux men’s hockey games to legions of loyal UND fans. According to UND’s Athletic Director at the time, Brian Faison, “Bob has done so many great things to support the community of Grand Forks, the UND Athletics Department and the University of North Dakota, He has played a true leadership role in the growth of the Fighting Sioux Sports Network.” After 32 years of being the station owner of Forum Communications, 27 years at WDAZ, and 43 years of overall service within the broadcasting business, Kerr decided to retire in 2012. However, his service did not go unnoticed, and his career ended with a bang when he had the fortune of receiving the prestigious North Dakota Broadcasters Association Pioneer Award that same year.
