Summary: Bobby Gaye is a Jamestown local who started working at the radio station KSJB-AM, Jamestown in 1959. He was unique in the sense that he was the first DJ to play rock-n-roll music at a station that covered a large area of the Dakotas. However, this was not the only thing Bobby was known for. He was equally noticed for hosting nonalcoholic dance parties for teens, in small towns all throughout the state of North Dakota. Bobby continued working for KSJB-AM for almost a decade until he moved to a radio station in South Dakota for a few years. He then returned to KSJB in 1998 where he was on air until his retirement in 2012. Bobby worked in the broadcasting industry for nearly a half decade. He did not fail to leave a legacy as he is still remembered by Jamestown locals today as one of the most popular announcers in KSJB-AM history. Bobby’s legacy was also honored in 2013 when he received the honorable North Dakota Broadcasters Association Pioneer Award.
