Summary: In the early 1960’s Dan Brannan admired KCJB, a station specializing in playing rock and roll music. At the time his employer, KFYR, was only playing older music and radio shows. Falling behind on current trends because the station was not set up to play rock and roll, Dan took the initiative and set up the technology in the station. This move earned KFYR more listeners and allowed upcoming artists to input their media through KFYR. Famous figures at the time, like Bill Gavin, would call Dan to rank songs popular in North Dakota bi-weekly in the 70’s, further increasing listeners. At that time, Dan became an operational manager of more stations in the area and later became the first Rockwell Award winner. Dan was a joy to work with and was always interesting to listen to. Dan was awarded the North Dakota Broadcasters Association Pioneer Award in 2014.
