Summary: Marvin Vernon Schock, 80, passed away peacefully January 14, 2024, at Baptist Rehab in Bismarck, ND. A funeral service honoring Marvin’s life was held January 20, 2024, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck. Marvin was born on December 8, 1943, in Elgin, ND, to Ruben Rudolph and Delia (Sprecher) Schock. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church. He was educated in Elgin, graduating from Elgin High School in 1961. Marvin’s journey in life was filled with dedication and passion for his work. He spent over 50 years on his farm, tending to the land and raising livestock in the Elgin area. Marvin's strong work ethic and love for the outdoors were apparent to all who knew him. His first marriage was to Julie Maychrzak and from this union their daughter Tasha was born. On June 1, 2001, he married Dianne Lucille (Forney) Sullivan at Niagra Falls, NY. In addition to his farming endeavors, Marvin also served his community as a member of the rural fire department, always willing to go the extra mile to ensure the safety of others. He was also a valued member of his church, serving on the church council for a number of years. Prior to moving to Bismarck in 1994, Marvin took a job with Interstate Engineering. He also worked for Capital City Construction and Enterprise Car rental. Marvin enjoyed exploring the world alongside his loving wife, Dianne. Together, they embarked on various adventures, traveling to Germany visiting Oberammergau and a memorable trip to Israel with their Good Shepherd church group. They also had the opportunity to experience the awe-inspiring Panama Canal with family. Outside of his profession and travels, Marvin had a deep appreciation for classic cars. He loved attending car shows and would spend hours admiring the craftsmanship and beauty of these timeless vehicles. His grandparents, Mike and Mary Sprecher, had a 1929 Model A Ford that they drove around the town of Elgin in the late 1960s. When Mike quit driving, they put the car on bids for sale to the family and Marvin had the highest bid of $500. He spent many years completely rebuilding the car. A few years ago, he sold it to Dianne’s sister, to keep it in the family. Alongside his passion for cars, he also enjoyed listening to country music and watching western movies. Marvin is survived by his wife, Dianne Schock; daughter, Tasha Schock, Bismarck; and stepson, Michael (Stephanie Lattrez) Sullivan, Woodbury, MN; step-grandchildren, Maddie (William) Ricci, Brock Sullivan, Brayden Lattrez, and Anya Lattrez. He also leaves behind his siblings, Betty Mallory and Jan Emineth, both of Mesa, AZ, Karen (Dennis) Sabin, Elgin, ND, Eugene (Cathie) Schock, Meridian, ID, JoAnn (Kirby) Schatz, Elgin, Brenda (Perry) Laub, Valley City, ND; his sister-in-law, Peggy Schock, Mesa, AZ; and many nieces and nephews. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brother, Leslie; sister, Luella Kautz; brothers-in-law, Clyde Mallory and Howard Kautz.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
