Summary: JoAnn Edith Schumacher, 92, Bismarck, ND, passed away September 21, 2022. Funeral services were held September, 26, 2022, at Parkway Funeral Services, Bismarck. JoAnn Edith Wentz was born October 3, 1929, in Napoleon, ND, to Otto and Lucy Mae (Wiebusch) Wentz. She was raised and educated in Napoleon. JoAnn married Ted Schumacher in Bismarck. They lived near Napoleon where she worked in a restaurant, at grocery stores, and also helped on the farm. In 1983 she moved to Bismarck where she was employed at The Wok restaurant for seven years, at the King and Queen variety store in Kirkwood Shopping Mall, and for thirteen years at Speedway Restaurant. She moved to Regan, ND, in 1993, and retired from her work in 1999. JoAnn considered work to be her hobby and was extremely dedicated and energetic in all that she endeavored. She was a member of Sunne Lutheran Church in Wilton, ND, and also a member of Ascension Church in Bismarck. JoAnn was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by her family and many good friends. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Jean Schumacher, of Napoleon, ND, and Ron and Shiela Schumacher of Elko, MN; two daughters and sons in-law, Linda Sprague, of Dawson, ND, and Shirley and Jim Fettig of Bismarck; six grandsons, Bryan (Keri) Schumacher and Dustin (Ginger) Schumacher, Tom (Terry), Jamie (Shauna), and Richard Sprague, and Jonathan (Kortney) Fettig; six granddaughters, Stacey (Jason) Carney, Sarah (Dan) Diedrich, Lisa (Rory) Kortan, Bobbi (Les) Peterson, Karla (Kirk) Vollmer, and Renee (Jesse) Kottenbrock; and in-laws, Vickie Wentz, and Delores Wentz, Terry and RoJean Wentz of Rugby, ND, and JoAnn Wentz of Napoleon; 30 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Thomas Schumacher; five brothers, Warren, Gene, Floyd, Ralph, and Gordon Wentz; her sister, Carol Moser; her husband, Ted Schumacher; and her special friend, Ivan Lange.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.

  • “Collection Number” searches the Collection Number field only and requires an exact match.
