Summary: Margaret Stangeland, 91, died peacefully April 27, 2024, at Golden Acres Manor, Carrington, ND. Her funeral service was held May 4, 2024, at the Federated Church UCC/UMC, Carrington. Burial was at Grace City Cemetery, Grace City, ND. Margaret Marie Wright was born on December 14, 1932, to Lester and Dorothy (Topp) Wright (on their wedding anniversary) at home near Grace City, ND. She attended and graduated from Grace City High School in 1950. Throughout her school years, she was a 4-H member and talked about all her Aunt Minnie Topp had taught her. Margaret met the love of her life, Alf Stangeland, at a Red Willow dance in 1949. She married Alf on March 24, 1951, at the Grace City Methodist church. Together they were blessed with four children and they enjoyed nearly 67 years together. She was very community-minded and served on various local, county, and church boards. She was a member of the Carrington-NR Music Club, the local UM Church Women’s group, 4-H leader, and a band mother member. She was a church pianist and encouraged the youth to share their talents as a church pianist as well. She enjoyed golfing, square dancing, and bowling. During the summer months, she could often be found gardening and tending to her vegetables and flowers. Alf and Margaret had a love for traveling and had the opportunity to visit Norway twice. They also traveled to Alaska, Florida, Washington, Virginia, and Iowa to visit family and friends. Starting in 1990, they spent 25 years wintering as “Snow Birds” in Arizona and enjoyed every bit of the warm weather and sunshine. They enjoyed meeting many new friends there, during their square dancing, golf, and family gatherings. Margaret also participated in ceramic and painting activities while in Arizona. Margaret and Alf always supported the local school and they were very fortunate to have all 10 grandchildren attend and graduate from the same school system. Margaret spent most of her life on the farm near Juanita, and moved to Carrington in 2011. She joined Alf in March of 2017 at Golden Acres Manor. Margaret will be greatly missed by her children, Colleen (Leslie) Greger, Jon (Connie), Jeff, and Ronn (Cindy), all of Glenfield, ND; 10 grandchildren, Lee Greger, Cara (Dan) Angelo, Natalie (Ty) Larson, Twila (Seth) Berge, Grant (Holly), Dustin (Tracy), Lucas (Amy), Shana (Adam) Garcia, Whitney (Remy) Sloan, and Ethan (Aleah); 21 great-grandchildren, James, Zak, Robert, Larissa, Bentley, Beckham, Cainen, Emma, Connor, Kipten, Brooks, Jeslyn, Annabel, Tanner, Ava, Keegan, Aubrie, Jonah, Letti, Ryland, and Forest; brother and sister-in-law, Harold (Karen) Stangeland; sisters-in-law, Carol Stangeland, and June McDaniel; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alf; parents, Lester and Dorothy; brothers, Dwight (Dorothy) Wright and Keith (Margie) Wright; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kris and Arlene and Lois Stangeland, Sig and Betty Stangeland, Kenny and Norma Stangeland, Solveig and Russ Thompson, Lloyd Stangeland, and Russ McDaniel.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
