Summary: Cordell Ray “Corky” Stromme, 68, passed away peacefully November 22, 2022, at his home with family by his side. A memorial service was held November 28, 2022, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Bismarck, ND, with a luncheon to follow at the Ramada Inn. Corky was born July 17, 1954, to Earl and Ruth Stromme in Minot, ND. He was raised in Kief, ND, and graduated from Balfour High School in 1972. On September 5, 1981, Corky married the love of his life, Mirna Schlosser. They shared an amazing life together and had three beautiful daughters. Corky had a long successful career at the North Dakota State Penitentiary. Over his 39-year career, he was promoted until he became the chief of security and held that position for 24 years, until his retirement in April of 2015. Corky had an intense passion for all things sports and outdoors. He was quite possibly the most faithful Vikings fan. When he wasn’t fishing, or hunting, he was chasing after his kids and their sports schedules. After retirement, Corky’s life was consumed with love from his grandchildren, who had him wrapped around their little fingers. Corky is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mirna; daughters, Jen (Kenny) Phillips, Julie (Abe) Smit and Jacquelyn (Justin) Fleck; grandchildren, Brooklyn, Alivia, Hunter, Anien, Max, Apollo, Kambree, Cooper and Caleb. He is also survived by his mother, Ruth Stromme; brother, Wayne (Denise) Stromme; in-laws, Pat (Tim) Kearns, Angie (Kevin) Hollatz, Cindy Schlosser, and Diane (Bruce) Roth; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Stromme; parent-in-laws, Henry and Rose Schlosser; brother-in-law, Mike Schlosser; sisters-in-law, Theresa and Annette; and his nephew, Daniel.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
